Blues, jazz, and soul are musical artforms that tell the story of the resilience, resistance, power, genius, and humanity of a people who survived slavery and continual oppression. No popular American—and even much of international—music we have today can exist without the influences of these classical genres. It can be said that blues, jazz, and soul dances, rooted in African aesthetics, are just as important in their influence in the dance world.
